The Lyme Away 5K was founded by Mercedes Planavsky, Ballston Spa Class of 2017, as a high school community service project. Having a close family member with lyme disease and with the increase in lyme disease over the past several years, it was the perfect time to raise awareness. With a list of several organizations that would be great partners, Mercedes chose to partner with The Lyme Action Network (lymeactionnetwork.org).
The Lyme Action Network is dedicated to informing the public about Lyme and other tick-borne diseases and working to help the victims of Lyme disease through education, advocacy, scientific research, and support. The Lyme Action Network is a 501 (c)(3) not for profit organization.
